Kim Jonghyun: The Kurt Cobain Of K-Pop

SHINee is a K-Pop group that debuted back in May 2008. The members consisted of 5 guys: Onew, Jonghyun, Key, Minho & Taemin. Jonghyun was the lead vocalist of SHINee & during his time in the group, he also worked as a producer, solo artist & radio host. Not only did his vocals always stood out to me, his solo work was more proof of how talented he truly was. As of now, Onew, Key, Minho & Taemin are the current members of SHINee. This wasn't due to any want to leave to pursuit other things. Sadly, the truth is a lot more depressing.

On 18th December 2017, Jonghyun committed suicide after losing his battle with severe depression. While he was open about his struggles on the Four Things Show, he kept many of his struggles a secret from the public. To say that his death broke me and many other fans would be a huge understatement. Is was a K-Pop tragedy that not only made the entire world stand still, it made the entire K-Pop industry reflect on the mistreatment of idols. Unfortunately, history would go onto repeat itself with the deaths of f(x)'s Sulli and Kara's Goo Hara. I remember lashing out at SM Entertainment & blaming them for being partially responsible for his death. For a long time, I refused to give any views to SM's music videos or buy their stuff on iTunes. I still can't watch certain videos of Jonghyun without getting extremely emotional.

Although this might be somewhat controversial to say due to their many, many differences, but to me, Jonghyun really was K-Pop's answer to Kurt Cobain. They're both extremely gifted artists who, despite losing their battles against their demons, have managed to influence future generations with their legacies.
